Confirm today’s boundary.
The sandy Gulf beach reached from Sand Key Park’s beach crossovers. The exception does not include inland lawns, the nature trail, dog park, landscaping, dunes, or a closed nesting area.

Rules in plain English
5 things to remember.
- Stay on the sandy beach. The rest of Sand Key Park is outside the county beach exception.
- Fill every hole and leave the surface safe and level.
- Stay out of dunes, vegetation, the nature trail, dog park, landscaping, and marked nesting areas.
- Do not disturb or remove wildlife, plants, natural material, or historic artifacts.
- The county beach rule does not by itself prove that submerged ground is open. Confirm that layer before entering the water.
Before you go
Make the last check simple.
- Read the live Sand Key Park page and the county park rules.
- Check the county’s current park-update page for construction or closures.
- Call if signs or the edge of the usable beach are unclear.
- Start only after you can point to the sandy beach and the protected areas you will avoid.
Quick questions
What detectorists ask first.

Yes, on the sandy beach under Pinellas County’s beach exception. The inland park, nature trail, dog park, dunes, and closed wildlife areas are not included.
Do I need a Pinellas County detector permit?
The current county rule page states a beach exception and does not publish a detector-permit step for Sand Key. Posted restrictions and staff directions still apply.
