- Stay out of wetlands, environmentally sensitive, archaeological, historic, facility, structure, and construction areas.
- Use a hand tool, keep holes no deeper than six inches, and refill them immediately.
- Report every find to park staff; lost, stolen, or historic items may be kept by the park.

Do I need a permit to metal detect in Orange County parks?
Yes. Orange County Parks and Recreation requires its metal-detecting permit for approved county sites.
Is the Orange County permit valid in every park?
No. It covers only eligible sites and approved patron-use areas. Partnership land and sensitive, historic, wetland, facility, and construction areas can be excluded.
How deep may I dig?
The official guidelines limit hand-tool holes to six inches and require immediate backfilling.
